Capsule wardrobes are becoming a thing. I’ve been thinking of building one because, honestly, it solves most of the fashion problems I have.
What problems, you might ask?
Perhaps not the more rampant ones, but still real to me. For instance, I dislike having to decide what to wear. I dislike having a cluster of things, and generally, too many things. I like the same kinds of clothes, and while I have tried to push myself out of that pattern, it really does appear that I like what I like.
I dislike the feeling of bad fabric on my skin too. Sometimes it outright itches. I dislike having to dispose of clothes made from synthetic materials. And I dislike having a wardrobe full of things only to keep reaching for the same few pieces.
That’s why the idea of a capsule wardrobe appeals to me.
A capsule wardrobe is a small, intentionally curated collection of versatile, high-quality wardrobe essentials that can be combined in different ways to form multiple outfits.
With one, I don’t have to search through a bunch of clothes only to pick out the same ones every time. I don’t have to deal with clutter from clothes I only wear once in a while. I can have a wardrobe filled with clothes I actually enjoy wearing, prioritise cotton and other natural fibres and, most importantly, feel comfortable every time I choose an outfit.
Essentials I Would Have in My Capsule Wardrobe
If I were to create one, here are some of the things that would be in mine.
Button-up shirts: These are one of my favourite things to wear. Easy, breezy and will always do the job. If combined nicely, you look like you put in effort without necessarily doing too much. You look put together and, my favourite, you look comfortable.

Tailored pants: Shirts are to me for tops what pants are to me for bottoms. I love, love them. They have the same effect as shirts. I love how comfortable and versatile they are.

Structured Women Tshirts: Another favourite. At this point, everything is my favourite. Lol. But I mean, Tshirts, obviously! They are my chill-day pick. The structured ones, for me, make things feel a bit more serious. I would wear one to work, to a casual meeting, to lunch or on a long errand day.
Slip skirts: Slip skirts are such an easy pick. You don’t have to do much. Just throw on a good enough top and be on your way. The right fabric feels like butter on the skin, and you’ll feel free all through the day, especially if you’re like me and prefer skirts when it’s that time of the month.

At the risk of making this an overly long read, I’ll pause here and share a second part later.
In the meantime, what are your thoughts on capsule wardrobes, and what would be in yours?
